Well Bob, the work is scedulled to start at the end of October, and will hopefully be finished in time for the holliday period. Everything is going to change, from where the entrance is to the position of the toilets.

Wow, ABS the 'legendary barman!' When is the refurbishment actually taking place? It would be great as it remains a regular haunt for many OMs.

The Beer cellar and possibly the kitchen are going in the cellar. Thats rite I said kitchen! We will be teturning to the good old days of ollivers food!

I like the idea of a water feature though. I will sugest that to Toney when I next see him.

As for the Jippoes that used to inhabit Don P's, Im afraid to say that some have started squating in ollies. Have no fear tho, they will be swept away with all the other crap when we finish the re-furb.

I heard about the Don Pedro's blaze - where will all the pikeys congregate to drink/fight now?!

There's been talk of using that cellar space for years; the main argument for not using it being that it's packed full of rubble. Any ideas what to do with all the extra space yet? I suggest larger toilets (less cupboardy), a decent size kitchen, more sofas, another bar, large ornamental water feature....

The chocolate shop. What you dont realise is that it is much bigger than it looks, it actually goes back to about half way inside Ollies. The is also a very larege seller running the entire lenght of the bar, starting at the entrance which we may make use of.

It will be good to have light in the old place at last, but personally, Ive become a bit attached to the old cave like feeling that comes with only the one set of windows. Nerver mind, change is enevitable in all things.

BTW did you ever go to Scally Wags/Don Perdroe's? cos it burnt down to the ground not very long ago.

Would that be the chocolate shop or the art shop? Either way it'll make a refreshing change to see some daylight in Olivers!

And it still is(for the time being). Though we have bought the shop next door, and the refurb is due to start later this year, so if you want to see the old place before hand, then pop in next time your back in the neighbourhood. The loss of the dancefloor wasnt the most dramatic event that I have seen in my time there. The most traumattic for me was seeing that beloved bannister that sepparted the raised seating from the bar go. A great loss.

Yeah, after the Lighthouse opened there wasn't much call for dancing in Olivers so the powers that be (Tony) wanted to combine the roles of DJ with manager on minimal pay. I moved down south while half the dance floor got turned into a junk room. Tragic.

A Barmans View NEW
(ABS - 14:41 28/02/04)

UK

Well, well, well. This is a turn up for the books! I never expected to find a site like this when I loged on. Its ABS here - OM, and legendary Olivers barman. Thank you Hutch for you kind words about what I now refer to as my pub, as I have been working there for sooooo long now. Not there all the time anymore sadly, as Im at uni in Bournemouth, but you will still always find me either serving behind, or propping up the bar during the hollidays. to those of you who have posted messages on this sight - hello, and let me answer some of your q's. By now I think it is pritty obveous that Olies is still going. It is still the place to go far most of the population of Malvern College, and MGC on a Fri and Sat night during term time. And I agree with some of you that some of the college lot can be a bit arragant at times, but Im allowd to say it as I used to be one of them! The Dance floor - Bloody hell! How long has it been since you last came back to malvern?! The dance floor has been gone for at least two years or even more. It went so that we could concentrate more on the very important passtime of getting drunk! Now-a-days there is the infamous Light House (recently redone, and I have to admit improved, Club 9). From what I have heard it has also had to have been put on one of the busting sights for the Malvern Col teachers at the weekends after Rob Mackarther (Sorry rob, I know thats not how you spell your name) got busted there. Lucky barsted only got a gating for it as well! In my day Brian (the little tosser) would of had you suspended.
Anyway, the final bit of news for you all is that Ollie's will soon be going through a massive re-ferb, so get along there quick to take in the old place before it happens, and then hurry back when its done and have a pint!
